Lycoming recently issued Supplement No 1 to Lycoming Service Bulletin No. 582-A. Supplement No. 1 claims to ‘exempt’ certain carburetors from MSA-13. However, Volare Service Bulletin SB-2 replaced MSA-13. MSA-13 is no longer active. Thus, Lycoming’s Supplement No.1 to Service Bulletin 582-A merely claims to exempt certain carburetors from an inactive service bulletin. Improperly relying on Supplement No. 1 may lead operators and repair facilities to continue operating and servicing carburetors with floats installed which are non-compliant with Volare SB-2.

SB-2 is active. In addition, service bulletins, SB-4 and SB-5 relate to floats and float replacement.

Carburetors manufactured by Volare or its predecessors (Precision Airmotive, Facet, Borg-Warner and Marvel Schebler) that are not in compliance with all applicable Volare Service Bulletins, including SB-2, SB-4 and SB-5 should not be accepted from any vendor.
